Last February, I traveled with two colleagues to Buenos Aires with the mission of prospecting the city as the site for our consulting firm’s South American headquarters. We had a tight schedule, so every detail needed to be perfectly managed. Fortunately, from the moment we arrived, Matías, our chauffeur, ensured everything ran smoothly and efficiently. His vehicle was comfortable and spacious, providing a mobile office where we could review our plans and prepare for each meeting.
There were two moments for which I will be specially grateful to Matías: First, on the day we arrived, he suggested a fantastic restaurant for dinner, “Don Julio”—a place where we experienced the best Argentina’s steak I have tasted to date.
But, more important, on day two, my colleague Kirk realized he had forgotten important documents at the hotel for an important meeting we would be having later in the day. Without hesitation, Matías sprang into action and offered to collect them. Kirk called ahead to the hotel concierge, ensuring the documents would be ready when Matías arrived.
These are only two examples, but there were plenty of others. By the end of our trip, thanks to the hard work, a carefully planned week, but also to Matías’ proactive and efficient support, we completed our objectives. The groundwork laid during those days allowed us to establish our South American office within just three months—a result we could not have achieved without our chauffeur managing every detail so we could stay focused.
