Six months after the floods that struck Rio Grande do Sul in April 2024, I traveled with some colleagues from Brasília to Porto Alegre as leaders of an NGO focused on recovery efforts. Our mission was to organize fundraising events and build partnerships to aid those affected. A local chauffeur called Alexandre picked us up at the airport, and his organizational skills and local expertise became an invaluable part of our work.

Throughout the week, Alexandre transported us across the city with remarkable efficiency, helping us coordinate complex logistics for our initiatives. He drove between meeting locations, venues for auctions of memorabilia donated by Brazilian TV actors, and discussions with potential concert organizers who could bring international LATAM singers to Porto Alegre for a benefit performance.
His assistance didn’t stop there. Thanks to Alexandre’s local connections at the city hall, we secured a meeting with government representatives, leading to commitments for special aid funds and work programs to support flood-affected communities. His dedication helped turn our ambitious plans into actionable outcomes.
As our trip came to an end, we reflected on the impact we had achieved in such a short time. Alexandre’s role in facilitating our efforts was nothing short of extraordinary, and his kindness made a challenging mission feel possible.
