A serene day of discovery in Amsterdam with Ton

Upon returning from a two-week cruise to the Norwegian fjords to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, my wife and I disembarked in Rotterdam early in the morning. With our flight back to the US not scheduled until late evening, we had the entire day ahead of us. While friends from the cruise opted for a packed excursion to Amsterdam, we sought a more personalized experience. A quick call to our Travel Agency resulted in a swift confirmation for a full-day excursion to Amsterdam, and right after breakfast, Ton, our chauffeur, arrived in a beautiful Mercedes SUV to whisk us away.

Ton showed his extensive knowledge of the area, provided by over three decades of experience, as he skilfully drove to Amsterdam while sharing fascinating stories and historical insights about the city. His calm and confident attitude made us feel secure and well-cared for throughout the journey. As we entered Amsterdam, we were captivated by the scenic beauty of the canals, the bustling Museumplein, and the grandeur of the city’s top museums, all from the comfort of Ton’s vehicle.

In the afternoon, Ton guided us through the picturesque Jordaan neighborhood, renowned for its narrow streets, quaint galleries, and boutique shops. We followed his excellent recommendations, enjoying the charm and authenticity of the area. His suggestions led us to delightful finds, and our chauffeur’s passion for his city’s unique character shone through every detail he shared.

Before heading to the airport, Ton drove us to the Bloemenmarkt, the Floating Flower Market. Here, we marveled at the beautiful array of flowers and bulbs, a fitting end to our day in Amsterdam. The market’s atmosphere and colorful displays provided a perfect snapshot of the city’s charm.

Back at Schiphol, we thanked Ton for his exceptional service and genuine enthusiasm for his city. This beautiful day in Amsterdam was the perfect finale to our European holiday, leaving us with wonderful memories to carry home.
