Discovering Peru’s ancient past with Cesar’s expert guidance

We were a group of five graduate archaeology students and our professor from Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán on an exchange program in Lima. Hosted by the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, we had an ambitious itinerary that included visits to some of the city’s most iconic archaeological sites. Cesar, our private chauffeur, played a decisive role in making the trip not only educational but also enjoyable.

Cesar showed a deep understanding of Lima and its historical treasures. He skillfully drove us through the traffic-packed streets to visit such important sites as the Pachacamac Ruins and the Huaca Pucllana pyramid. His adaptability to our needs and his kind attitude ensured we stayed on track without feeling rushed.

The best of our trip was a visit to the Caral Archaeological Zone, home to the Americas’ oldest pyramids, dating back around 5,000 years. The site is located 3 hours from Lima, so organizing the visit was a challenge, but Cesar’s logistical expertise made it possible. Along the way, he shared fascinating anecdotes about Peruvian history and culture, enriching our experience far beyond what we could have learned in textbooks.

On our final evening, as we reflected on the trip, we all agreed that Cesar’s support had been invaluable. His knowledge, kindness, and dedication made our time in Lima extraordinary, and we left with a deep appreciation for both Peru’s history and his exceptional service.
