I was part of a delegation traveling from Beijing to San José de Costa Rica as part of a diplomatic and cultural exchange between the two sister cities, which was established in 2007. The embassy had booked a private chauffeur, Alexis, to greet us at the airport and be our guide during our stay in San José.

Our official interpreter missed her flight and wasn’t set to arrive until the following day, leaving us slightly concerned about communication. However, Alexis surprised us with his ability to bridge the gap. Conversing in English, he managed to help us arrange every detail, ensuring we reached the city hall for our first meeting and later guiding us to our hotel. He communicated so effectively that even after the interpreter arrived the following, many of us preferred to rely on Alexis for his seamless assistance and kind approach.
Over the next three days, Alexis took care of our transportation to various events and business meetings. His knowledge of the city and attentiveness to our needs made the trip smooth and enjoyable. His kindness and professionalism charmed us all, leaving a lasting impression. On the final day, he dropped us off at the airport, and we left Costa Rica with gratitude for the unforgettable hospitality Alexis provided.
